When To Replace Your Windows

Wondering whether your windows need replacing? Even the highest quality of windows won’t last forever. This is, of course, is affected by how well the windows are maintained, the weather conditions they are exposed to, and the material of the windows.

When you first spot the signs of damaged or tired windows, and it’s clear that you’re unable to repair them, it’s important to replace them as soon as possible! Leaving your windows as they are could reduce your home’s overall thermal efficiency and security.

Let’s take a look at some of the clear signs that your window/windows may need to be replaced.

  • Decay and Rot

Do your windows appear to be rotting or showing signs of decay? The rain can play a huge part in how much your windows rot. If the rot is left untreated, this can affect the function of the window, making it much harder to open and close.

Your double glazing may also need replacing. Signs of this could be visible cracks, holes condensation and/or scratches. If your windows have become cloudy or foggy between the panes of glass or if there’s a water leak through the window frame, these are also signs that your double glazing is failing. If your uPVC windows are of poor quality, you may notice some discoloration as they can often expand in hot weather.

If any of these changes in appearance occur, they are signs of worn out windows that need replacing as soon as possible.

  • Increased Energy Bills

As your old windows start to lose their efficiency, they may start to let the warm air out and the cold air in. This can only mean one thing - without the support of your windows, your heating bill will be much higher, due to poor insulation. This means it will cost much more to heat up your home! You can test this by standing next to your windows, does it feels colder than the rest of the room?  If the glass of your window is cold, there may be gaps in the frame letting out the warm air.

  • Your Home is no longer sound proof

Can you hear more noises outside your home much clearer than you used to? Perhaps you live next to a main road, and the sounds of the cars are much louder than before. If this is the case, it is definitely time to replace your windows. Investing in some new windows which block out the outside sound can improve your quality of life and allow you to enjoy the peace and quiet again!

  • You Still Have Single Glazing!

If your room is too cold, or your window seems flimsy when the weather is bad, then it’s definitely time to switch to double glazed windows. Single paned glass is very low quality and is often found in old properties. They negatively affect the thermal efficiency, security and weather proofing of your home. If you’re still stuck with single glazing, now’s the time to make a change. Double glazing windows are great and serve their purpose, but why not make up for lost time and choose triple glazing instead? Enjoy maximum thermal efficiency, security and weatherproofing all year round!  There are many benefits to triple glazing, see more here.

  • Your Windows Are Leaking

Have you noticed any damp patches in your home, or maybe your windows are showing a build-up of condensation on the inside. Condensation isn’t usually a problem and can easily be wiped away, however if it is left for a long period of time, it may cause mould to grow on the inside of the frame. If the window wasn’t fitted properly in the first place, the windows may leak so badly and cause a puddle on the window sill! This is no way to live, replace your windows as soon as possible.
